Evil Eye

Etaf Rum invokes the strongest emotions by bringing to life a story that paints a picture of generational trauma and survivor's guilt. The story revolves around the life of Palestinian American Yara, who tries to steer away from the conventions expected of a traditional wife while trying to understand her own trauma and avoid passing it on to her two daughters.

The Surrogate Colony

The Surrogate Colony is set in a post pandemic world where its citizens routinely scan their surroundings for microbes using their x-ray vision, carry out extensive sanitization procedures on a day to basis and look down upon large gatherings. Needless to say, this dystopian world is built on our existing fears - the fear of catching a virus.

My top 5 picks for 2021!

It's hard to pick a favorite read when you're a total bookworm. Yet, I persevered and picked five! The five books I have picked are a mix of fiction and non-fiction that made me look at a range topics from a different perspective. Minus the Fire keeper's Daughter, all other books are quite underrated. They were published a couple of years before - BUT they still don't have the recognition they deserve. Which is why I am here to explain, why you should be adding these books to your TBR pile this year.

The Starless Sea

I started this book with high expectations considering Erin Morgenstern's first novel Night Circus was an absolute hit. The Starless Sea in contrast was a painstakingly slow read. Yes the descriptions were colourful, the world build up was magical. BUT THERE WAS NO PLOT!! Reading a story with no plot is like walking through a dark tunnel with the hope of seeing some light at the end of it, only to realize that you were simply walking towards a blank wall. It was an agonizing read!
